MILLIONS of Americans are set for a reprieve when it comes to filing their taxes – while others scramble to get their documents submitted.
Taxpayers have been warned they could be slapped with penalties if they don’t file their tax returns and haven’t requested an extension.
The deadline to file taxes is April 15, but those in certain locations will get a reprieve.
Parts of Arkansas were ravaged by storms, flooding and tornadoes so IRS chiefs have extended the deadline to November 3.
Residents impacted by storms are also eligible to get aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
And, they don’t have to do anything to get the cash as IRS bosses will send relief to the resident’s address.
Americans impacted by storms in Tennessee should also note down the November 3 date.
Taxpayers in Kentucky also have around seven extra months to complete the necessary paperwork.
Taxpayers affected by Hurricane Helene also have extra time to file their tax returns.
This applies to Americans who live in Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
They will have until May 1 to file their taxes.
Residents in Juneau, Alaska, must file their taxes by May 1, as well as residents in Chaves County, New Mexico.
In February, IRS chiefs revealed that residents impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires now had until October 15 to file their taxes.
But, it’s only those in Los Angeles County who have the temporary stay.

Americans who have an adjusted gross income of $84,000 or less can use the Free File software.

There are also free tax services for Americans who serve in the military and veterans.
Taxpayers can request an extension, but those who fail to submit tax returns on time are at risk of penalties.
The IRS warned the penalty equates to 5% of the tax due for each month the paperwork is late. It is capped at 25%.
Those who file their tax returns more than 60 days after the deadline, the penalty could be $485, according to The Herald Tribune.
On average, it takes around 21 days for tax returns to be issued.
But, some may receive tax returns within five days.
The IRS has warned filing taxes electronically is the quickest way to get rebates.
Residents have been urged to file their 2021 tax returns as they might be entitled to receive $1,400 checks.
The stimulus package dates back to the third round of payments issued during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Taxpayers are at risk of missing out on cash they are entitled to.
In Arizona, residents could be in line to get a refund of $680, according to the IRS.
While, payments worth $995 on average are up for grabs in New York.
