Starbucks announced it's rolling out a subtle but effective new change across coffee locations in the U.S.
In the statement, published on the brand’s website on April 14, the coffee giant revealed it's shaking up the uniform in order to deliver a “more consistent experience.”
“Our partners are the face of our brand, and our iconic green apron has always been a special part of what makes us unique,” the statement began, noting that “since 1987, the green apron has been the symbol for Starbucks Coffee Company.”
While the apron is staying, the coffee house wants to ensure it remains the focal point, implementing the change starting May 12.
The statement notes it’s “evolving" the "dress code in all stores to focus on simplified color options that allow our iconic green apron to shine and create a sense of familiarity for our customers, no matter which store they visit across North America.”
The change includes a “more defined color palette” that includes “any solid black short and long-sleeved crewneck, collared, or button-up shirts and any shade of khaki, black, or blue denim bottoms.”
Currently, the dress code permits tops of all colors, along with bottoms, footwear and outwear that's black, gray, navy, brown or khaki.
A new line of company-branded t-shirts will also be available, with “partners” getting two at no cost.
“By updating our dress code, we can deliver a more consistent coffeehouse experience that will also bring simpler and clearer guidance to our partners, which means they can focus on what matters most, crafting great beverages and fostering connections with customers,” the statement concluded.
This seems to be the latest move from CEO Brian Niccol, who announced a plan in Sept. 2024 that would go "back to Starbucks," which includes baristas leaving notes or cup art on each drink order for a more personalized experience.
