Ohio State’s football program visited the White House on Monday afternoon to celebrate its recent National Championship victory.
It’s a particularly-big occasion for Vice President JD Vance, who is an Ohio State alum. However, he had an unfortunate moment during the ceremony on Monday afternoon.
As Vance went to pick up Ohio State’s National Championship trophy, it split into 2 pieces. The base fell out of Vance’s grasp to the floor while someone else on stage managed to secure the trophy. After briefly attempting to re-attach the base, Vance ended up holding the top part of the trophy for the ensuing photo op with the team.
Ohio State coach Ryan Day even attempted to help the Vice President. Here’s a clip from the moment the trophy fell apart:

— On3 (@On3sports) April 14, 2025While it was an embarrassing moment for Vance, it was still a celebratory day for a Buckeyes team that’s coming off of its first College Football Playoff victory in more than a decade. Ohio State defeated Notre Dame 34-23 back in January to finish off a great season.
Ohio State wrapped up its spring practice season over the weekend. The Buckeyes are once again amongst the betting favorites to win the national title in 2025.
