The first six actors have been announced for HBO's highly anticipated Harry Potter television series.
The network revealed which stars had been cast in iconic Hogwarts staff members roles – John Lithgow will play Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer is set to portray Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu will play Severus Snape, Nick Frost nabbed the role of Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon will act as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse will play Argus Filch.
"We are happy to announce the casting of John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, Nick Frost, Luke Thallon and Paul Whitehouse to play Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, Quirrell and Filch," Francesca Gardiner, showrunner and executive producer, and Mark Mylod, director and executive producer, said in a joint statement, according to Variety. “We’re delighted to have such extraordinary talent onboard, and we can’t wait to see them bring these beloved characters to new life."
HBO, who is describing the series as a “faithful adaptation” of J.K. Rowling's popular novels, has yet to announce the cast for the three lead roles in Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. The show is set to film this summer.
