UNC’s Langston Reynolds announces commitment to Minnesota

Former University of Northern Colorado basketball standout Langston Reynolds will play next year at Minnesota, Joe Tipton of On3 Sports announced Sunday afternoon on X.

Reynolds, a 6’4” wing from Denver, has spent the last three seasons with UNC after committing to the Bears out of high school over Missouri, Northern Arizona and Oral Roberts. He announced he would enter the transfer portal on March 24 and has one season of eligibility remaining, barring any future NCAA rulings or changes in eligibility.

Reynolds made the jump from role player to bonafide star ahead of last season, in which he averaged 16 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists and was named a unanimous first-team All Big Sky selection.

During that campaign, he was a driving force of a UNC team that won 25 games — just one away from the school record — qualified for the school’s first-ever National Invitation Tournament and won its “first” Big Sky regular season championship. UNC previously won the regular season and tournament title in 2010-11, but both were vacated due to a slew of violations by that coaching staff.

Reynolds is the first signing of coach Niko Medved’s tenure at Minnesota. Medved came to the Golden Gophers after seven seasons down the road at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

While with the Rams, Medved guided them to a 143-85 record and three trips to the NCAA Tournament. CSU was seconds away from qualifying for the Sweet 16 as a No. 12 seed last season, losing to Maryland on a buzzer beater in the second round.
