Nico Iamaleava’s contract talks have become public fare on Friday as he seeks to re-negotiate his deal with Tennessee.
Tensions have escalated to the point that Iamaleava was a no-show at Tennessee’s practice on Friday. With the Vols set to hold their spring game on Saturday, there’s now significant questions regarding the quarterback position in Knoxville.
ESPN’s Chris Low previously reported that Iamaleava has been seeking a raise to approximately $4 million for the 2025 season. Now, college football insider Matt Fortuna is reporting there are “multiple blue bloods” who are “heavily pursuing” Iamaleava.

The transfer portal is not yet open for the spring window, but that will change on Wednesday. Iamaleava could enter the portal in search of a better deal for the 2025 season and leave the Vols without a proven quarterback this fall.
Although it’s not clear which blue bloods Fortuna’s report may be referring to, it’s worth noting that it’s likely none are in the SEC. League rules dictate players transferring to another SEC school during the spring window will not be eligible for the ensuing season.
Most big-time programs already have quarterback plans in place for the 2025 season. However, some such as USC, Ohio State, Oregon, North Carolina and Notre Dame do not have proven options at that position as of now. If Iamaleava does decide to enter the portal, he’ll likely have a number of potential options.
The transfer portal is set to re-open for players on Wednesday.
