Jerzy Robinson moves around the court and the campus with such confidence that it’s hard to believe she’s only been at Sierra Canyon School for two years.

She’s dabbed up the national anthem singers before games and said hello to just about every teacher or faculty member who walks by during her photo shoot for the Daily News girls basketball player of the year honor.

Robinson is unique, right down to her neon-colored manicures.

“It’s definitely me,” Robinson said. “Just me being vibrant, excited, flashy. I think my nails kind of go with that, and they stand out everywhere I go.”

The 6-foot guard commanded attention in her first season as a Trailblazer with her determination to score or make a play by any means necessary. This year, she added some finesse to her game to become the No. 3 recruit in class of 2026 in the ESPN HoopGurlz rankings.

“I want her to stay injury-free,” Robinson’s dad, Darnell, said. “And one of the ways to do that is to use your mid-range pull-up, to use your 3-pointer to make the game a lot easier. I feel like a lot of injuries come from barreling to the basket and things like that. So her being more efficient is actually taking care of her body.”

The two train together almost every day, whether it’s stretching, watching a game, weight training or skill work. The work led her to an average of 26.8 points per game this season in addition to 10.4 rebounds per game.

She effortlessly scored from all three levels — although there are actually five, if you ask Darnell. Her plays were calculated and she got the teammates that she’s grown close with involved in the game, too.

“It’s all about sacrifice,” Robinson said. “Basketball is a team sport and so you’ve got to do whatever you can to win and help the team out whether it’s rebounding, scoring, getting your teammates open.”

Her grittiness is still there, a characteristic that was inherited from her football-minded family and Darnell, who played linebacker at Oregon State.

Sierra Canyon fell short of a CIF State Open Division title this season when it lost in the regional semifinals to Ontario Christian in overtime. The fact lingers in Robinson’s mind, but the strides taken this season ease the pain.

“Individual growth ultimately leads to team growth,” Robinson said. “We made it to the semifinals, which wasn’t the overall goal, but there was personal growth. There were a lot of challenges this year, and I think that ultimately builds leadership and your character at the end of the day.”

    COACH OF THE YEAR

    William Burr, Oak Park

Oak Park won its third straight CIF Southern Section championship when it beat North Torrance in the Division 2AA title game this season. Burr also guided the team to a Division 3AA title in 2023-24 and a Division 5A title in 2022-23.

The Eagles had just six players on the team all season and Burr made the most of the roster, turning his players into aggressive defenders and relentless scorers who could find the basket in almost any situation.

    ALL-AREA FIRST TEAM

    Hamiley Arenas, Notre Dame, Fr.

Arenas burst onto the girls basketball scene with her skills, basketball IQ and an outgoing personality that earned her the nickname “Miss America.” The younger sister of Daily News boys basketball player of the year Alijah Arenas averaged 23.3 points and 10.5 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game.

Laila Bowens, El Camino Real, Sr.

Bowen’s specialty was scoring and steals for the Royals, who reached the CIF State Regional Division III championship game. She contributed 16.7 points while grabbing 4.7 steals per game.

    Kamora Coleman, Birmingham, Jr.

Coleman was shifty and elusive on the court. She used her speed and ball handling to find open spots and could shoot the ball, too. She averaged 9.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 3.6 steals per game.

    Mathis Dritz, Westlake, Jr.

Dritz took the lead on a dominant Warriors team that ruled the Marmonte League. Her height and finesse allowed her to score 22.2 points and pull down 13.4 rebounds per game.

    Angelina Habis, Chaminade, So.

One of the top underclassmen in the Mission League. She shined with 13.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game. She is committed to play at Princeton.

    Emilia Krstevski, Sierra Canyon, Jr.

The No. 26 recruit in the 2026 class in ESPN’s HoopGurlz national rankings. The 6-foot-4 post player was unstoppable whenever she found her groove and leveraged her height to average 11.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.

    Morgan Mack, Hart, Sr.

The Long Beach State commit earned All-CIF-SS honors in Division 2AA. She could use physicality to get to the basket in addition to smart shot selection. She averaged 18.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals.

    Kara McKell, Valencia, Jr.

McKell surpassed 1,000 career points this season using her speed and unexpected physicality. The Foothill League co-Player of the Year averaged 18.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

    Bella Spencer, Harvard-Westlake, Sr.

Her ball-handling and determination made her difficult to guard, and when she got free, a basket could come from any of the three scoring levels. The All-CIF-SS Division 1 player averaged 14 points and 6.8 boards per game.

    Delaney White, Oak Park, Jr.

Her hustle earned her recognition as the Division 2AA Player of the Year and MVP of the Coastal Canyon League. She averaged16.5 points, 7 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game.
