Times are changing in South Bend, as Notre Dame football fans will be able to purchase alcohol during games for the first time in 2025.
The university announced that news on Friday afternoon. Fans will also be able to buy alcohol during hockey and basketball games this upcoming season. It’s a first for the Fighting Irish, who are set to join a growing list of universities who are permitting the sale of alcohol at sporting events.
Notre Dame previously only allowed alcohol consumption for fans in premium seating at football games. Here’s the full statement from the University of Notre Dame:
The sale of alcoholic beverages at Notre Dame football, hockey and basketball games will expand to include both premium and general admission seating beginning with the 2025 football season. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase alcoholic beverages at concession stands inside Notre Dame Stadium, Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center and Compton Family Ice Arena. This expansion will provide for a modern fan experience, consistent with other professional and collegiate stadiums and venues throughout the nation. Notre Dame is committed to promoting responsible consumption and ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all attendees.
On the field, Notre Dame is preparing for a big season in 2025. The Fighting Irish made it all the way to the National Championship Game this past season but ultimately fell short against Ohio State. Marcus Freeman’s program will look to continue that momentum this fall.
Notre Dame will open the 2025 season against Miami on Aug. 31. Its first home game with this new alcohol policy will come the following week against Texas A&M.
