On the heels of actress Lauren Graham floating her idea for a Gilmore Girls revival, co-star Scott Patterson has agreed that her idea is "very doable" — and he even has more thoughts as to what Lorelai (Graham) and Luke (Patterson) are up to if the show were to pick back up where they left off in 2016.
In an April 10 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Graham said she thinks a Gilmore Girls Christmas special would be a great way to revisit the show, and Patterson agrees, telling CT Insider in a new interview, "Another iteration of the episodes or a Christmas special would…actually make a lot of sense. I think that's a really smart way to go about it."
But he added that nothing is in the works or anything, it's all mere speculation at this point.
"I haven't heard anything, I don't know anything, but that sounds like a very feasible, very doable idea there," Patterson said.
He went on to elaborate that he sees his character and Lorelai's character as grandparents now, since the Netflix revival Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life left off with the cliffhanger of Rory (Alexis Bledel) finding out she's pregnant and not revealing to the viewers who the father is. But whether a revival focuses on them being grandparents or not, he said there is "always" a story to tell about Luke and Lorelai.
"I think there's always a way to tell more story between Luke and Lorelai. I just think they remain the same, and I think that's why people love those characters so much, is that they're with each other, they're for each other and it will never be otherwise," Patterson added.
Patterson also said that he thinks the reason Gilmore Girls that endures is because it's such a comforting show.
"I think the new generation is discovering it because it's a very safe place to be, to watch a show is to feel comfort and feel very safe," said Patterson. "Nothing bad is really going to happen. I think people keep coming back because they just want to laugh and relax."
All seven seasons of the original run of Gilmore Girls plus the 2016 miniseries A Year in the Life are available to stream on Netflix.
