(NEXSTAR) – A small plane crashed near a major highway in South Florida on Friday, police in Boca Raton confirmed.
Local officials said the aircraft crashed just southwest of the Boca Raton airport. Authorities have yet to confirm any fatalities, either among the aircraft's passengers or those on the ground.
Aerial footage shared by NBC affiliate WTVJ from the scene of the accident appears to show debris littered across a roadway just west of Interstate 95. Debris could also be seen across a pair of train tracks nearby.
Video taken by an onlooker also showed a car in flames near the site of the crash.
"Possible plane crash right outside my office today," wrote X user @DrDronezChannel, who shared the footage online. "Shook the whole building. Unfortunately I'm certain lives were lost here today."
In a statement shared with Nexstar, a spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration said the plane, a Cessna 310, crashed at around 10:20 a.m. after departing from the nearby airport. They also said three people were on board, but did not confirm any casualties.
National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA will be investigating, the spokesperson said.
Officials in Florida are expected to speak to the media sometime Friday.
