After KKR, now it’s RCB vs Chinnaswamy curator: Karthik claims “good pitches” weren’t provided

The row between IPL teams and pitch curators in IPL 2025 doesn’t seem to be nearing its end anytime soon. After KKR and LSG, RCB has joined the bandwagon. Mentor Dinesh Karthik has expressed displeasure towards the pitches provided for RCB’s home games so far. Incidentally, RCB have lost both the matches that they have played at the M Chinnaswamy stadium.

RCB unhappy with Chinnaswamy pitches

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Karthik claimed that RCB had asked for good pitches for their home games but were given something else. The RCB mentor opined that the surfaces provided at the Chinnaswamy were hard to bat on.

“I think the way T20 cricket is, the more runs are there, the better it is for the broadcaster, the better it is for the fans. They all like to see boundaries. In the first two games, we have asked for good pitches. But it’s turned out in this way where it’s been challenging to bat on, for sure,” Karthik claimed.

RCB slumped to a 6-wicket defeat at the hands of DC, thanks to KL Rahul’s unbeaten 93-run knock. Earlier, they lost their first match at home (Bengaluru) to Gujarat Titans. Karthik said that the team would have a chat with the curator. He added that RCB trusts the curator to do his job.

“We will obviously have a chat with the curator. We trust him to do his job, and we will try and do the best of what we can,” Karthik added.

It all started with KKR captain Rahane asking for a spin-friendly pitch at the Eden Gardens. After back-and-forth retorts with curator Sujan Mukherjee, Rahane opted to finally say “Main kuchh bolunga toh bawal ho jayega.”

Similarly, LSG mentor Zaheer Khan had criticized the pitch provided for the team’s first home game at the Ekana. Following the defeat to PBKS, he claimed that it felt like a Punjab curator had prepared the surface for LSG’s home game.

CSK coach Stephen Fleming had also inserted himself into the “home advantage” debate. He had claimed thatthat the team enjoyed no home advantage at the MA Chidambaram stadium. He said that the team found it very hard to figure out the surface after losing the game to RCB.
