This Just In – Are you on the Griffin List?
In a political year that has set a new low for crazy stuff we have to wonder about now, in North Carolina, we have to wonder … am I on the so-called Griffin List?
Registered voters who voted in November 2024 who do not have their driver’s license number or last four of their social security numbers in their voter file. Mega sore loser NC Supreme Court Candidate Jefferson Griffin claims these voters are therefore ineligible to vote. Many of these voters have been registered to vote in NC for years and have voted in multiple elections without issue.
More than 10,000 of them live in The Triangle. Shocking! The liberal blue dot in the middle of our red state. By throwing out these votes, Griffin may be able to throw the election. Thankfully, this is under judicial review and (so far) Griffin’s arguments are not prevailing. So far.
In Greek mythology, a griffin was a hybrid creature with a lion’s body and an eagle’s head and wings. They symbolized wealth and power … strength. So the irony of Mr. Griffin’s name is especially thick in his shamefully egregious attempt to snatch an election to a state supreme court seat.
His effort here is the opposite of courageous and to be doing this in the name of ascending to the state’s highest judicial platform … it’s a shameful embarrassment for North Carolina.
Check the list ( thegriffinlist.com) and make sure you’re not on it, but if you are, you have some work to do. Call your local Board of Elections for direction on dealing with any gaps in your registration record. Mr. Griffin would really appreciate it if you’d be disinterested in this and let him continue under the radar. Let’s not accommodate him.
On to other matters, I offer my thanks to those in charge of the weather for the rainy pollen relief (however temporary) delivered this week. I know I say this every spring, but holy mackerel it’s been an oppressive season of yellow fog this year.
Change your furnace filters and keep those COVID masks handy when you’re stirring up stuff in the yard. One thing I took away from the pandemic is an understanding of how much stuff is floating around in the air unseen by the naked eye. If we could actually see all of it, we might never leave the house.
A friend of mine in New England texted this morning that the forecast up there includes the promise of some snow flurries. “Ahhh, the Easter snowstorm …” I responded. I remember a couple of those from childhood. Certainly as kids we thought this was great – an unexpected snow day. As adults who are ready to plant annuals and feed the lawn, it’s not wonderful, but I have to say … at least you can go outside and take a deep breath during snow flurries!
As we look forward to the prospect of some additional rain tonight, check the Griffin List. Make sure you’re not on it. Share that information with friends and family (as my daughter-in-law did with me last week – thank you, Jamie). Stay awake, friends. Resistance works.
