The controversy between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the pitch curator at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata is turning from bad to worse. As per the reports in the Bengali daily Sangbad Pratidin, it is learned that an official from the franchise took a jibe at the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) official after the game against Lucknow Super Giants.
The reports claimed that after Kolkata Knight Riders lost the game to Lucknow Super Giants, an official from the Ajinkya Rahane-led side sire sarcastically “congratulated” a current Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) official, leaving the latter puzzled.
However, when the official from the Cricket Association of Bengal, asked about the clarification, the KKR official said that the pitch curator won the match and he should be given the Man of the Match award. He said:
“You won the match, didn’t you? That’s why I’m congratulating you!” Adding fuel to the fire, the KKR official allegedly suggested, in a mocking tone, that the "Player of the Match award should be handed to the Eden curator."
A former Bengal cricketer, who is closely tied to India’s cricket circuit, was also made aware of the development and he didn't go easy on the Kolkata Knight Riders. He said that by making the excuses of the pitch, the franchise is letting themselves down.

The former cricketer added that rather than accepting their shortcomings, Kolkata Knight Riders are blaming the pitch, which lets the players off the hook too easily. Speaking about the same, he said:
"By making these excuses, KKR is only making their path tougher,” he said. “Not once have they admitted that poor batting order selection led to the loss against Lucknow. This lets the players off the hook too easily. There’s no one pointing fingers at their failures. The players have learned that if they lose at Eden, they can just blame the pitch and move on.”
The former player also pointed out that Kolkata Knight Riders management didn't include any players or support staff from Bengal in the team. Speaking further about the same, he said:
“They don’t include anyone from Bengal in the team—neither players nor support staff. If they had a local in their support staff, this pitch issue could’ve been resolved smoothly.”
He also highlighted how Gujarat Titans faced a similar pitch-related issue in IPL 2024 but resolved the matter quickly by bringing Parthiv Patel into the team. “KKR could learn a thing or two from that,” he said.
Ajinkya Rahane called pitch curator publicity-hungry
The controversy between Kolkata Knight Riders and the pitch curator at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata started right from the start of the season. After skipper Ajinkya Rahane mentioned that they wanted some help from the pitch, the curator came up with a massive statement, saying that as long as he is, there won't be any change in the pitch.
Then, after the game against Lucknow Super Giants, Ajinkya Rahane yet again took a jibe at the pitch curator. He called him “publicity-hungry”, saying “Our curator loves getting publicity too!”
