A suspect allegedly wielding a knife is in custody Thursday on suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer after he was shot by police officers in El Monte.
El Monte police officers were dispatched about 10:55 p.m. Wednesday to the 10000 block of Bodger Street regarding reports of a person threatening neighbors with a knife, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.

“When officers arrived on scene, they located the suspect armed with a knife and gave him numerous verbal commands to drop the weapon,” according to a police statement. “The suspect failed to comply with the officers’ commands and rushed towards the officers, at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred.”

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on a peace officer and booked at the El Monte Police Station. A knife was recovered at the scene of the shooting, and no officers were injured during the incident.
