DRIVERS have found a way to get around President Donald Trump’s looming tariffs on the auto industry.

Those who can prove they meet certain criteria can bypass the dreaded tariff laws thanks to hidden fine print.

After Trump slapped 25% tariffs on all cars imported into the US, many car makers have struggled to adapt to the sweeping changes.

Some car companies are trying to shift production to the US, while others are introducing new flashy models to entice consumers to keep shopping.

Jaguar Land Rover said it would pause all shipments of cars and car parts coming into the United States.

Consumers and car enthusiasts are worried that the tariffs could exponentially increase the cost of purchasing vehicles made or partly made outside the country.

However, classic car owners have found a loophole to avoid the tariffs, as reported by GB News.

Car shipping expert Mike Harvey noted that the official tariff document had a “little gem” that would exempt older vehicles from the proposed taxes.

“A key detail in the small print of the ‘Liberation Day’ declaration reveals a new classification for 25-year-old cars, which exempts them from the 25 percent tariff,” he said.

According to the document, classic cars only collect the standard 2.5% duty if they meet the 25-year age requirement.

“This means that while newer vehicles may face higher tariffs, classic cars are exempt from these additional charges, significantly reducing the financial burden for enthusiasts and making vintage imports more accessible.”

Still, Harvey implores drivers to make sure they have all necessary import, shipping, and customs documents for their vehicles.

The car expert called the fine print “a win for classic car collectors and importers” looking to save some money.

“We remain hopeful that this move by the US government will influence the importance of classic cars worldwide,” Dmitriy Shibarshin, the global marketing director for West Coast Shipping, said in a statement.

Consumers who want to purchase a vehicle without the upcharge need to act fast.

Adam Lee said his supply of cars at Lee Auto Malls that haven’t been impacted by Trump’s tariffs should last for another month or two.

Consumers have until June to snag a car from Lee Auto Malls, one of Maine’s largest auto dealers, as reported by the Portland Press Herald.

Lee said he has about 1,000 new cars and 600 used cars left that won’t be hit with the tariffs.

“If you weren’t planning to buy a new car, don’t rush out and buy one just for the heck of it,” Lee said.

“But I’m telling people, ‘If you think you’re going to buy something, buy it in the next two months.’ I wouldn’t wait.”

Trump most recently dropped the sweeping reciprocal tariffs to a baseline 10% rate for most countries.

The president also announced a 90-day pause on the tariffs for most countries except China.
