Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals had a forgettable outing against Gujarat Titans on Wednesday (April 9) when the two teams locked horns against each other in the 23rd game of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025).
The Royals' two-match winning run came to an end as the Titans thrashed them by 58 runs.
For the Titans, it was the fourth win in a row and put them at the top of the points table. The Gujarat-based outfit completely outplayed the Royals to register an impressive victory.

Sanju Samson fined:
As if the defeat was not enough, Sanju Samson's day went from bad to worse as he was fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during the game. The Rajasthan Royals captain was fined INR 24 lakh after his team's second over-rate offence in IPL 2025.
On the other hand, the rest of the players in the playing XII - including the Impact Player - have been fined either INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lesser.
"Rajasthan Royals Captain Sanju Samson has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 23 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad," stated a release from the IPL.
"As this was his team’s second offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Samson was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," added the release.
RR to face RCB next
The Royals' first over-rate offence this season was against the Chennai Super Kings. However, Sanju Samson had only played that game as an Impact Player while Riyan Parag was the captain. Fortunately for Samson, the IPL has done away with match suspensions for a third offence.
Samson and his teammates will now be looking to get back to winning ways when they take the field in their next game. The Royals will be up against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 13 in their next match.
