The latest season of Bridget Christie’s The Change has finished its run, meaning there’s no better time to binge watch the acclaimed comedy on Channel 4’s free-to-use streaming service.
The story follows Linda (Christie), a woman going through the menopause, who seeks out new connections and experiences in the Forest of Dean to mark this new stage in her life – but inadvertently gets drawn into a community in crisis.
The series has been hailed for its unique comedic voice and brilliant performances, with Christie joined by the likes of Ghosts star Jim Howick, plus Liza Tarbuck (Upstart Crow), Monica Dolan (Mr Bates vs The Post Office) and Motherland’s Tanya Moodie.
Meanwhile, new to BBC iPlayer is Reunion, a deaf-led thriller series that is both told through British Sign Language (BSL) and spoken English, starring Matthew Gurney as Daniel Brennan, “a deaf man determined to right his wrongs while unravelling the truth behind the events that led him to prison”.
BBC iPlayer also offers the chance to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the regeneration of the world’s favourite sci-fi drama, Doctor Who. It was back in 2005 when Russell T Davies, through his extraordinary drive and determination, rebooted the much-loved but dormant sci-fi drama.
Since then, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, Jodie Whittaker and Ncuti Gatwa have assumed control of the TARDIS and taken us on the adventure of a lifetime.
If you fancy something grittier, Paramount Plus has a plush crime drama MobLand, headed up by an impressive cast including Dame Helen Mirren, Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan, who plays the head of an organised crime family fighting for power within a global crime syndicate. Created by Ronan Bennett, the man behind the rebooted Day of the Jackal, the opener is directed by Guy Ritchie.
If films are more your thing, there are plenty of fresh releases to choose from. Cinematic blockbusters such as A Real Pain, A Complete Unknown and Bridget Jones: Mad about the Boy are now available on the small screen, plus there’s fun for all the family over the Easter holidays with Despicable Me 4, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Mufasa: the Lion King, Sneaks and Moana 2.
You could also try the Oscar-nominated adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s novel Nickel Boys; The Outrun, in which Saoirse Ronan plays a young woman recovering from alcohol addiction who retreats to the Orkney Islands; or Polite Society, which follows a wannabe stuntwoman after she decides that she and her friends must pull off a wedding heist to stop her sister from getting married.
