— NBA on ESPN (@ESPNNBA) April 8, 2025It’s no surprise that Johnson is electing to go pro after a standout season in Austin. Johnson averaged 19.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, shooting 37% for 3-point territory. He helped Texas do just enough to make the NCAA Tournament in 2025.
Johnson is currently projected as the No. 5 overall pick in the latest mock draft from ESPN. He reacted by saying that he is appreciative of the recognition of his talents, but noted that he was not concerned with how high he would go in the draft, as long as he got the chance to play in the league.
“It’s kind of somewhat a childhood dream, but, when I was a kid, I didn’t think about being No. 1 or being lottery,” Johnson said on NBA Today. “I just really thought about just getting a chance (as) one of those 60 to have a chance to play in the NBA, that’s all I really needed. But to be a lottery pick, that’s even better for sure.”
Johnson is sure to get that chance in June, and plenty of Longhorns will be watching to see where he begins his pro career.
