ESPN has released its way-too-early top-25 rankings for the 2025-26 college basketball season.
After a season that was largely dominated by the SEC, there are surprisingly no teams from that league who cracked the top-5 of these new rankings. Kentucky is the top-ranked team, coming in at No. 6 overall.
Ahead of the Wildcats are Houston, Purdue, Louisville, UConn and Michigan. Since the list was published, Kentucky made another huge addition by earning a transfer commitment from Arizona State transfer forward Jayden Quaintance. Jaland Lowe is also set to join the program while returners Otega Oweh and Brandon Garrison add plenty of talent and continuity.
The rest of the list is peppered with SEC representation. A total of 7 SEC teams appear in the way-too-early top-25. Here’s where every remaining SEC team ranks:
No. 6 Kentucky No. 7 Arkansas No. 11 Alabama No. 12 Auburn No. 19 Florida No. 21 Tennessee No. 24 TexasFlorida comes in at No. 19 after winning the national title as multiple key players are set to leave the program. The Gators will need to find replacements for Walter Clayton Jr., Alijah Martin, Will Richard and possibly Alex Condon.
ESPN is expected to update these rankings later in the offseason after the dust settles from the transfer portal.
