Former Arizona State big man Jayden Quaintance has re-committed to Kentucky, his father told ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.
He was previously committed to Kentucky, but following John Calipari’s departure to Arkansas, the forward opted for Arizona State.
“We were always hoping they’d come back around and recruit him,” Haminn Quaintance told Givony. “It didn’t make sense for (head coach Mark Pope) last time, trying to take on one of Cal’s guys, but this time it really felt like he wanted him to be there.”
Quaintance came to Tempe as one of the highest-rated prospects in program history, with 247Sports ranking him as the No. 9 player and No. 2 center in the 2024 class.
In his lone season at Arizona State (24 starts), the forward averaged 9.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.6 blocks across 29.5 minutes per game.
He also set a program record for blocks by an Arizona State freshman with 63.
Injuries played a role in his season last year, with ankle and knee injuries sidelining him multiple games. His last game as a Sun Devil was Feb. 23.
Despite the missed time, Quaintance still cracked the Big 12’s All-Freshman and All-Defensive teams.
He’s also being mocked as a top-5 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Jayden Quaintance’s decision not only change coming to Arizona State
Quaintance marks the latest Sun Devil from last year to head elsewhere through the transfer portal, joining guard Joson Sanon (St. John’s).
Arizona State has also seen seven other Sun Devils enter portal, including wing Amier Ali and guard Austin Nunez, though they haven’t landed anywhere as of Tuesday morning.
The Sun Devils have, however, seen a trio of additions through the portal — Marcus Adams Jr., Moe Odum and Allen David Mukeba — and recently received commitment from four-star recruit Marcus Jackson.
