The Empire State Building is known to celebrate plenty of monumental occasions by lighting up in various colors at night. On Monday night, it was time for Florida basketball to get a special shoutout from the New York City staple.
That’s because the Gators delivered one final epic comeback in the NCAA Tournament, erasing a 12-point deficit in the 2nd half to storm back and take down Houston, 65-63, for the program’s 3rd national title. A 3-pointer from Walter Clayton Jr. tied the game at 60-all with just over 3 minutes left, and a defensive stand with less than 5 seconds remaining secured Florida’s victory, giving Todd Golden his first national title.
After the win, the Empire State Building lit up in a vibrant display of orange and blue, joining the celebration for the Gators:

Florida had to conquer 2-time defending national champion UConn and erase key deficits in the Elite Eight and Final Four wins over Texas Tech and Auburn.
The title game proved similarly tough with a Houston defense that held the Gators to 28 first-half points and built the lead to 42-30 early in the 2nd half. Ultimately, Florida pulled it out and will relish its 3rd title since 2006 as the kings of the basketball world.
