At 78 years old, singer Elton John is feeling the weight of getting older, which he just opened up about in a new interview with Howard Stern.
When Stern mentioned one of the songs from John's new album with Brandi Carlile, he noted, "This one leveled you, Elton, doing this one... 'When This Old World Is Done with Me.' Beautiful song, Elton, it's about your own mortality...
John then went on to describe "I started singing... I started playing the verse... I was happy with the way the piano was sounding. And I got to the chorus, and then, when I finished the chorus, I obviously knew what it was about, and I just broke down. That's never happened to me ever when I've written a song before."

John went on to add, "It was upsetting because I do think about passing away... what's going to happen to my children, David... I'm the fittest I've ever been. I've just had the most incredible medical test results. I'm not going to be passing away, but it just touched a nerve."

John recently described the stressful journey he's had with losing his eyesight after an infection, admitting that he can't watch TV, read, or watch his boys play rugby and soccer.
Despite his health struggles, he's grateful for all he has, and he clearly shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
It's only natural for all of us to consider our own mortality at one point or another, especially as the years start creeping up on us.
Fans who listened to John's interview with Stern weighed in on what a true legend he is. One exclaimed, "Man… what an incredible artist. What an amazing catalog of work!"
Another added, "Arguably the greatest musical genius, co-songwriter and piano playing singer ever!"
Other comments included:
"Straight to the core it went. Hauntingly beautiful."
"I listened to this live and wow the ending with the brass band - ? that was the most incredible piece. To think it was played on the spot. Just amazing!"
"Always an interesting man - great interview and made me sad to even think of it."
I think it's safe to say exactly everyone agrees, especially with that last statement.
