Former Mississippi State HC Zach Arnett resigns from position at UNLV on Dan Mullen’s staff

Former Mississippi State head coach Zach Arnett spent last season as an analyst at Ole Miss, and was hired by Dan Mullen to be the defensive coordinator at UNLV. He started his coaching career on the defensive side of the ball, and was the DC at Mississippi State before becoming the head coach.

However, on Monday, it was announced that Arnett had resigned from the position due to personal reasons.

UNLV says Zach Arnett has resigned as defensive coordinator for personal reasons. Paul Guenther will assume the duties of defensive coordinator on an interim basis. Rebels were in the middle of spring practice.

Arnett was only the defensive coordinator at UNLV for 3 months, and he chose that job over the DC position at Appalachian State.

With the announcement of Arnett resigning, Mullen was quick to appoint the next guy as Paul Guenther will take over the role in an interim title. Like most teams, UNLV is in the middle of spring practices.

This is when teams are looking to build the chemistry and relationships that will carry over to the season. This is Mullen’s 1st year as the at UNLV, but the program has been a good place before him as well. The Rebels have won at least 9 games the past 2 years, with the team going 11-3.

With the new CFP system, UNLV is well-positioned to compete for a spot in the playoff.
