AMERICAN Idol contestant Jazzy Mae stormed off set in tears after flubbing the lyrics to her performance in a heart-stopping scene cut from the show, The U.S. Sun can exclusively reveal.
The singing hopeful’s attempt to give it her all went south during Hollywood Week’s notoriously tense Showstopper round – the first time the contestants sing in front of a live audience.
The college student from Union, South Carolina took the stage at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles to sing in front of judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood.
In addition to the trio of superstar judges, the crowd of the downtown LA venue was fully-packed with spectators – adding to the pressure the contestants faced.
Jazzy, 20, performed the country classic Gunpowder & Lead by Miranda Lambert and started strong as she showcased her deep southern twang.
However, as she continued on with the song, she forgot the lyrics “multiple times” and froze on the stage – something that the show mostly cut out of the episode that aired, a source told The U.S. Sun.
According to an insider, Jazzy forgot the lyrics to the song at several points throughout the performance and looked “totally lost.”
The contestants are only given one chance to perform their number – and not given any leeway to stop and start over.
As Jazzy stumbled over certain lines of the song, the band continued to play over her as she looked out into the crowd with seemingly panicked wide eyes, the source claimed.
“It was really sad and so awkward. Everyone in the room really felt for her, especially because she is talented with a great voice,” the insider said.

At one point, a show producer was seen chasing her and attempting to calm her down.
Other contestants that were present debated if they should get up and console Jazzy, but after witnessing how upset she was, they decided to “give her a minute and give her some space.”
While American Idol showed Jazzy stumbling over the lyrics and freezing at one point in the song, they did not show the other points where she fumbled the words.
Sunday’s season 23 episode briefly showed Jazzy emotional backstage after the performance as a group of people attempted to console her however, it did not reveal the full extent of how upset she really was.
The judges looked noticeably disappointed after the performance – with Luke telling Carrie and Lionel that “you could really tell the room, the crowd, the band – it was a lot on her.”
Unfortunately, the on-stage blunder marked the end of the road for Jazzy and her time on American Idol is over after being eliminated by the judges.
Singer/songwriter Jazzy took to Instagram after the episode aired and reflected about the “stressful” performance.
END OF THE ROAD
Alongside a video of her performing Ashley McBryde Girl Goin’ Nowhere, she penned the heartfelt caption: “Thank American Idol for such an amazing journey this season.

“It seriously means the world to me. Even though this performance didn’t go the way I planned, I had the best time in Hollywood and this experience was such a blessing.
“The nerves were real, the stress was intense, and I gave it everything I had. I love all the contestants I got to meet.
