The Coachella Valley Journalism Foundation announced Monday that they will spearhead an online fundraiser to help the Palm Springs Post launch their new publication, the Indio Post.

“While news outlets across the country disappear, we’re bucking the trend,” said CVJF President Randy Lovely.

“This new endeavor will bring Indio residents the same community-focused journalism that has made the Palm Springs Post’s website and newsletter a must-read source.”

The Palm Springs Post is a weekday newsletter and website with more than 17,500 subscribers. They launched the Post in 2021 with co-founders Mark Talkington and Kendall Balchan and they hope to serve the more than 90,000 Indio residents with their new publication by early May.

“Even though Indio is the largest and fastest growing city in the Coachella Valley, there is a gap in coverage from the existing media outlets,” Balchan said in a statement. “The Post will serve the community’s interests and report in-depth on Indio and only Indio.”

CVJF will match contributions up to $12,000.

“This is your chance to be part of something special — growing journalism rather than watching it disappear,” said Lovely. “You don’t need to be a resident of Indio to understand the importance of this new addition to local media.”
