Orlandos Epic Universe Opens Soon-Heres What to Know

It's been 26 years since a major theme park opened in the entertainment capital of Florida. On May 22, Orlando residents and visitors alike will have the chance to experience Epic Universe, Orlando's newest theme park, which will be vying for a piece of The City Beautiful's 95 billion dollar tourist industry.

Eight years in the making, Epic Universe will allow visitors to explore over 100 acres on Universal's new South Campus. Complimentary shuttles will move guests between the new park, about a 15-minute drive from the existing Universal property, and Universal's other properties, including City Walk.

The new venue will offer an immersive storytelling experience divided into four mini-parks. Each mini-park connects to Celestial Park, the hub of Epic Universe. Think Bellagio fountains-meets enchanted garden-meets hip, downtown restaurant scene, and you’ll capture the Celestial Park vibe. Each mini-park will connect to Celestial Park through a series of tunnels dubbed “portals.”

The themed mini-parks offer guests the opportunity to experience some of their favorite Universal-brand movies and characters with interactive games, new rides, and experiences. Everything from staff uniforms, landscapes, smells, sounds, and even restrooms becomes part of the total encounter, providing a fully integrated experience that aims to revolutionize the theme park industry.

Included in the lineup of mini-parks are Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe (focusing on classic monsters and villains), How to Train Your Dragon-Isle of Berk, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter-Ministry of Magic. Epic will also offer three new hotels, including Universal Helios Grand, a luxury resort with rooms starting at $490 per night. The Stella Nova and Terra Luna resorts are more budget-friendly with rooms under $200 per night.

Park entrance fees start at $139 during non-peak season and $199 during peak season (summer), which is on par with other area theme parks. Unlike other parks, Epic Universe will use facial recognition for park entrance, locker rentals, and express-line rides in an effort to reduce wait times and get you to your experience faster.
