Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary opined that MS Dhoni should have retired on a high note after CSK lifted the IPL trophy in 2023. His remarks come amid the criticism directed at the ex-CSK skipper over his slow-paced knocks and position in the batting order in IPL 2025. In the game against DC, MSD couldn’t finish off the game for the hosts despite sticking around in the middle for nearly ten overs.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Tiwary reckoned that Dhoni was losing the name, fame and respect he had earned over the years by continuing to play in the IPL. He said that fans were unable to bear him batting in such a manner, adding that it should have served as a sign when they gave interviews against him after the loss to DC.
“I think the right time for him to retire was in 2023, when he won the IPL trophy. He should have retired then. Somewhere, I feel that all the fame, name, and respect he earned from cricket — it’s kind of slipping away in the last two years with the way he’s been playing,” Tiwary claimed.
‘Strong call needs to be made’
This is not the first time Tiwary has spoken about Dhoni’s stint in IPL 2025. Earlier, following CSK’s loss to RCB, he had claimed that no one in the team’s support staff had the courage to ask MS to bat up the order. This was after he came out to bat at number 9 in that game.
Speaking on similar lines, he claimed that decisions were not been taken in the interest of the CSK team.
“The decisions being taken aren’t in the interest of the team, in my opinion. I feel that a strong call needs to be made, a strong call should be made, and someone needs to explain — if it’s not happening anymore, then it’s okay, just let it go,” said Tiwary.
