(KRON) -- Vallejo police said a theft suspect who walked away with a cart full of stolen goods ripped a kitchen knife out of its store packaging to threaten several employees.
Gilroy PD warns sideshow participants of potential consequencesPolice said the incident happened Thursday at a business located on the 3000 block of Sonoma Boulevard.
Store staff told Vallejo police that "a woman entered their store, retrieved a kitchen knife from an aisle, [and] removed it from its packaging."
Police said the woman loaded her cart with $300 worth of merchandise then "brandished the knife and threatened to stab multiple employees if they made any attempts to stop her."
Witnesses alerted police that they saw the woman trying to hide the stolen items in a nearby field and she was detained by officers a short time later.
Vallejo police said the woman initially gave a fake name to officers, but they later confirmed her real identity.
Police confirmed they recovered and returned the stolen merchandise to the store, including kitchen scales, packaged food items and the knife allegedly used in the incident.
Police said the woman was booked into the Solano County Jail where she faces several charges, including robbery and brandishing a weapon.
"We are grateful that this incident was resolved without injury. We thank the courageous employees and witnesses for reporting this incident," authorities said in a social media post. "Vallejo PD remains committed to protecting our community members and local businesses."
