The Israeli army has expanded its ground aggression in the northern Gaza Strip on Friday, including shelling the Shuja’iyya neighborhood.
Arab and international efforts continue to push for a ceasefire agreement, with French President Emmanuel Macron scheduled to arrive in Cairo on Sunday evening to support its efforts to stop the war.
The Arab League warned that the war waged by Israel on the occupied Palestinian territories has now entered a new phase of complete brutality.
Israel on Friday began expanding its ground aggression in the northern Gaza Strip to include the Shuja’iyya neighborhood in Gaza City, amid shelling and heavy fire, according to the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA).
The agency explained that Israel is forcibly evacuating the areas it has invaded.
WAFA reported that the Israeli army has begun issuing evacuation warnings, followed by cordons of fire around the targeted areas to pressure residents and force them to flee.
UN condemns Israeli blockade
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, said that the Israeli blockade of Gaza may result in starvation as a method of warfare.
He expressed shock at the recent killing of 15 medical and humanitarian workers in Gaza and demanded an independent and comprehensive investigation, calling to hold those responsible for any violation of international law accountable.
During his briefing to the UN Security Council on Thursday, Türk said that the Israeli occupation army continues to bombard Palestinian camps, where Palestinians have been displaced numerous times and have nowhere safe to go.
French President to arrive in Cairo
French President Emmanuel Macron will arrive in Cairo on Sunday evening to support its efforts to stop the war, according to a statement from the Élysée Palace, according to Agence France-Presse.
During a meeting with Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Jelezkov, Jordanian King Abdullah II called for achieving a comprehensive truce, starting with an end to the aggression on Gaza Strip, restoring the ceasefire, and allowing the entry of relief aid.
The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, warned that Israel’s war on the occupied Palestinian territories has entered a new phase of arrogance, with deliberate violations of signed agreements and the killing of more civilians.
He warned against the consequences of global impotence in the face of this audacity practiced by the occupation against all the meanings and standards embodied in international law.
