All of the ‘A’ finals during tonight’s session of the 2025 Sacramento Pro Swim Series will be filled. But, after a short psych sheet, scratches and DNS swimmers in prelims, and now the finals scratches, there will be some very small ‘B’ and ‘C’ finals tonight.
For example, after only 11 swimmers raced the women’s 200 butterfly this morning, two ‘B’ finalists have scratched, leaving one swimmer—Grace Nuhfer—entered in the ‘B’ final.
The highest scratch after prelims was Ohio State’s Cornelius Jahn, who pulled out of the men’s 100 backstroke after placing second overall to Olympian Yohann Ndoye-Brouard. Jahn swam 55.76 this morning and was the only swimmer other than Ndoye-Brouard to break 56 seconds in the heats.
His scratch moves Brady Calkins into the ‘A’ final.
Other ‘A’ final scratched ahead of day three finals in Sacramento include Fresno State’s Jenna Pulkkinen and Hungary’s Vivien Jackl. Pulkkinen was slated to race in the 200 breaststroke ‘A’ final and could have raced the ‘C’ final of the 50 freestyle after placing 26th due to other scratches above her. She’s not in either race this evening, though Fresno State will still have a swimmer in the ‘A’ final in Aliz Kalmar, last night’s 100 breaststroke winner.
For the second Pro Swim Series stop in a row, Jackl took on the 200 butterfly/400 freestyle double in prelims. She made the two championship finals, placing fourth in both events this morning. But, for finals, she’s focused solely on the 200 butterfly, scratching the 400 freestyle. Her decision means that Julia Arzave will swim out of lane eight in the championship final.
Highlighting a slew of ‘B’ final scratches are Jack Dahlgren and Diana Petkova, who opted out after placing ninth in their respective events. Dahlgren was ninth in the men’s 200 butterfly this morning but made the ‘A’ final in the 100 backstroke, which is where he’ll put his focus tonight. Petkova was ninth in the 50 freestyle and won’t race in finals at all this session after scratching.
