Like many celebrity couples, Bacon and Sedgwick’s love story began on a movie set, with the pair first getting to know one another while working on the PBS movie Lemon Sky in 1987. "I was knocked out," Bacon has said of their early encounter. "I thought she was amazing."
Sedgwick, on the other hand, thought the rising star — fresh off his success with Footloose at the time — might be a little full of himself. "I remember thinking, 'Oh, he thinks he's really cool,’” she told People. Still, she agreed to a date and the next morning woke up and thought, “‘I feel like home.’ I realized, 'Oh, that was him.'”

The couple exchanged vows on Sept. 4, 1988. “It’s so crazy to me to this day that I met Kevin at 21 or whenever the f--k it was and got married at 22,” Sedgwick told Parade in 2023. “The only reason I made that choice was because I’d fallen for him. But had you told me that it would have happened, I would have thought you were out of your f--king mind. That wasn’t me. I was fiercely independent. I moved out of my family home at 17 and was finally self-sufficient. But I met him and it was like, of course we have to get married. When I look back on it, it’s insane.”
But it also felt right. Speaking to Vulture in 2019, Sedgwick said, “He just was the one, you know? He was just the soul mate, he was just the one.”

Bacon and Segwick share two children: son Travis, born June 23, 1989, and daughter Sosie, born March 15, 1992.

Sedgwick was born to venture capitalist Henry Dwight Sedgwick V and Patricia Rosenwald, who divorced when she was 6, and the family on her dad’s side includes colonist Major General Robert Sedgwick and model Edie Sedgwick.
“We were very aware of the Sedgwicks and how important they felt they were, if you know what I mean,” Sedgwick told Parade of her illustrious heritage. “But yeah, they were amazing. One of our progenitors signed the Declaration of Independence and another was a general in the Civil War. The couple splits their time between an apartment in Manhattan, where Sedgwick grew up and where she and Bacon raised their kids as well, and a farmhouse in Connecticut, where they live with pigs, goats, alpacas and miniature horses.
As for whether they ever considered moving to Los Angeles, Sedgwick has said the possibility came up when she was working on The Closer. But “the kids were like, ‘No, no, no, no!’” she told Parade. “They’re just dyed-in-the-wool New Yorkers. It’s hard but you grow up faster and you see the world in a different way, and that’s a good thing.”

For her part, Sedgwick told Piers Morganin 2012, “I see him as a sick man. And I see us as adults who made a choice. And I see a lot of people who are so much worse off than we are, and I think that shit happens.”

The couple has collaborated several times, starting with Lemon Sky, the 1987 movie that brought them together in the first place. From there, they co-starred in Pyrates (1991), Cavedweller (2004) and The Woodsman (2004). They also worked together on Loverboy, a 2005 movie directed by Bacon, who also appeared in the film alongside his wife and their two kids, and the 2022 Bacon vehicle Space Oddity, which Sedgwick directed.
