AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Austin Police Department is seeking public help identifying two suspects wanted in connection with a deadly shooting that happened earlier this week near Interstate 35 and East 32nd Street, per a news release from the agency.
Officers responded to the shooting Monday around 1:50 a.m. in the 400 block of North I-35. When officers arrived on the scene, they found 33-year-old Rex Johnson "unresponsive" with "apparent gunshot wounds," according to police.
Johnson was transported to a local hospital. He was later pronounced dead around 1:15 p.m. Thursday, according to police.
A preliminary investigation revealed Johnson was standing next to his friend, who was blind and using a cane, when two suspects walked up to them. One suspect allegedly assaulted Johnson and knocked him to the ground. Then, the second suspect allegedly shot him, according to police. Both suspects ran away east from the intersection "immediately after the shooting."

Anyone with any information on the shooting can contact APD's tip line at 512-974-TIPS. Tipsters can also submit an anonymous tip via the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program website. Police said a reward of up to $1,000 may be available for any information provided that leads to an arrest.
