The Arizona Cardinals and standout tight end Trey McBride have agreed on a four-year contract extension, the team announced Thursday.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal is worth $76 million and includes $43 million guaranteed. He’s now the highest-paid tight end in NFL history.
Much like the contract extension for running back James Conner and safety Budda Baker, McBride’s deal was a must for what this regime hopes to accomplish.
Since coming aboard as the Cardinals’ 2022 second-round draft pick out of Colorado State, McBride has shot up the ranks as one of the best tight ends in the NFL.
In 46 games played (38 starts), McBride has reeled in 199 catches for 2,028 yards and four receiving touchdowns.

This past season was McBride’s best, with the tight end surpassing the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career while snagging 100 balls and picking up WHAT first downs. Those were all team highs.
He again set a new franchise best for catches by a Cardinals tight end in a single season, too, passing his 2023 mark of 81.
It’s clear he and quarterback Kyler Murray have a connection that continues to grow with every game.
And while his receiving touchdowns may have been few and far between in 2024, McBride still found other ways to score with a rushing and fumble recovery touchdown.
“That’s not the reason he’s going to get paid,” head coach Jonathan Gannon said when asked about McBride’s low scoring rate after Week 15’s win over the New England Patriots.
“He’s a huge playmaker for us. A lot of the passing game goes through him. The run game, he’s fantastic. … Every play he’s out there, he’s max effort and he’s an impact player. He really is. When the ball goes to him, he makes a bunch of plays.”
McBride has also been a force off the field, as made evident by his Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award from the Cardinals in 2024.

The tight end is the latest Cardinal to put pen to paper on a new contract extension under this regime.
He joins safety Budda Baker, running back James Conner, pass rusher Zaven Collins and center Hjalte Froholdt to ink new deals in the past year.
General manager Monti Ossenfort continues to reward those who have gone above and beyond for the organization since they came to town.
