It was four days ago when the truth came to light in this one particular Wendy’s, the location of which is unclear.

An employee posed a question on the r/wendys Reddit thread, unleashing a flurry of questions with few answers.

shows off a sign that says: “When using [the] bathroom you have to leave your phone with the manager.”

caption expressed concern about this rule: “This sign was put in the breakroom last week.

“I just feel very weird about this rule and feel like it’s an overstep of boundaries on their part.

“I don’t think this is allowed?? Like most of my (21F) coworkers are grown adults, how are you gonna ask for their phones?

“I’m not sure if I’m overreacting and this is a standard rule or if this is actually weird on my manager’s part.

“I also want to add that this rule is only enforced while my GM is working, if she’s not there my shift managers really don’t care or ask for our phones.

    “I just want other opinions.”

And opinions are what she got.

    REDDIT RESPONSE

There were lots of theories as to why this rule was implemented, with some believing that it is there to stop employees wasting time on their shifts.

But some defended the overall policy, even if they thought the way of announcing it was a bit strange.

One person said in the comments: “Someone is abusing their bathroom breaks and ruining it for the rest of you by “going to the bathroom” for 15mins while they’re really watching TikTok.

“But a company can implement a complete no phone policy at work if they want to.

“This is a weird way and probably not approved by HR.”

Another added: “Yeah, at my store (not wendy’s but same thing) someone would go on their break, come back and then go the bathroom for 30-45 mins.

“He ruined it for all of us since we had to start leaving our phone on the desk when we went to the bathroom.

“When he left, that rule stopped immediately.”

    Fast Food meal deals

Here are some of the current value meals offered by popular fast food joints.

Taco Bell’s $7 Luxe Cravings Box:

Chalupa Supreme Beefy Five-Layer Burrito Double Stacked Taco Chips and nacho cheese sauce Medium drink

    McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal:

McDouble or McChicken sandwich Four-piece Chicken McNuggets Small fries Small soft drink

    Wendy’s $5 Biggie Bag:

Burger King’s $5 Your Way Meal:

Whopper Junior, Chicken Junior, or Bacon Cheeseburger Fries Four-piece chicken nuggets Soft drink

And a third noted: “Honestly, it sounds like a hygiene thing more than a break-abuse thing.

“If you can’t get your 21 year old fast-food workers to stop touching their phones while handling people’s food, you might at least hope to get them to not touch their phones while on the toilet.

“Still an overbearing and psycho policy solution – not to mention illegal and unenforceable.”

The policies a restaurant chain like Wendy’s decides to introduce is ultimately at its own discretion.

As the location of this Wendy’s is unknown, it is unclear if this is a franchise location or not.

While the majority of Wendy’s are franchised, there are some that are not.

There have not been any other reports of this rule being implemented at Wendy’s.

The US Sun has reached out to Wendy’s for comment.
