Black Snow season 2 cast, filming locations and episode guide

Travis Fimmel is back as Detective James Cormack hot on the heels of a new cold case in a second season of Black Snow.

The Australian crime drama arrives on BBC Two with a new missing persons investigation.

    Zoe Jacob disappeared from her hometown of Moorevale in 2003, now her backpack has been found by a local police officer and Cormack is called in to find her.

    At the same time, he is still carrying out his own personal detective work hunting for his long-lost brother.

    Created by Luca Taylor, season one of the series first aired in the UK on BBC Four in August 2023.

    Travis Fimmel leads the cast as Detective James Cormack from Queensland Police Service’s cold case unit, who is called into deal with the latest missing person case.

    Australian former model turned actor Fimmel, 45, gained prominence as a model for designer Calvin Klein.

    He began acting playing Tarzan in the US drama series of the same name. Since then he has starred in The Beast, in Vikings as Ragnar Lothbrok, Raised by Wolves as Clabe/Marcus and Dune: Prophecy as Desmond Hart.

    On film, he has appeared in Maggie’s Plan, Warcraft, Finding Steve McQueen, Dreamland and One Way.

    Jana McKinnon plays Zoe Jacobs, who disappeared from her own 21st birthday party in 2003.

    McKinnon, 25, is an Austrian-Australian who has appeared in productions in both countries.

    She starred in the Australian television series Bad Behaviour and played Elli in the Austrian film The Trouble with Being Born.

    Dan Spielman is Leo Jacobs, Zoe’s father in Black Snow.

    The Australian actor, 46, has played Sr Patrick Tidy in The Secret Life of Us, Andrew Holland in Offspring, Ned Banks in The Code and Vincent Callahan in The Newsreader.

    He has also appeared in the films One Perfect Day and The Hunter.

    Megan Smart plays police officer Samara Kahill, who finds Zoe’s bag and triggers the reopening of the case.

    The Australian actress, 27, played Anne Sherman in the soap opera Home and Away. She also starred as Amelia in Class of ’07 and Amalia in the 2023 Netflix film Choose Love.

    Film crews were back in the Australian state of Queensland for the second series of Black Snow.

    The first was set in the north of the state but this time filming took place in the south, around the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane.

    The Glass House Mountains in the hinterland are part of the dramatic backdrop for this series, with volcanic peaks and sweeping forests.

    Rosemary Blights, the show’s executive producer, described filming in the Glass House Mountains as an incredible experience.

    While the show’s creator Lucas Taylor said: “Queensland is such a fantastic place to shoot. It has an incredibly varied range of striking locations from the beaches to the mountains to the rainforests.

    “I can’t speak highly enough about the experience of filming in Queensland.

    When is Black Snow season 2 on, and how many episodes are there?

    Black Snow begins on BBC Two on Friday 4 April at 9pm.

    The six-part series will be shown at the same time weekly on Fridays.
