New York Times political correspondent Maggie Haberman said Wednesday that President Trump’s advisers are “tired of” tech billionaire Elon Musk hanging around.
“He does see advantages in having Musk around,” Haberman told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on “The Source” of Trump in a clip highlighted by Mediaite. “I don’t think that he is eager to shove him out. I do think there are a number of Trump advisers who are tired of Musk’s presence, and I think that is going to continue as long as Musk is there.”
Musk faced a setback this week via the Wisconsin Supreme Court in which the candidate he backed lost. Liberal candidate Susan Crawford secured victory over conservative candidate Brad Schimel, who Musk’s super PAC had supported with more than $12 million alone.
Musk minimized the Wisconsin results on the social platform X early Wednesday, stating that he “expected to lose.”
President Trump also said earlier this week he anticipates the tech billionaire to eventually go back to helming his companies following his work reshaping the federal government.
A reporter pointed out Monday that Musk is a special government employee, therefore limiting his work time to 130 days in the role. When Trump was questioned about if he wants the tech billionaire to stick around longer, the president said he will have the desire to go back to his companies.
“Is Donald Trump aware that there is … there are downsides to Elon Musk? Yes,” Haberman said Wednesday. “Is he aware that members of his Cabinet and members of his staff don’t like Elon Musk? Yes.”
“I don’t think you will ever see Elon Musk completely out of Trump’s orbit,” she added.
The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.
