Darts star arrives at PDC qualifier only to discover he has already reached tournament

Madars Razma turned up to PDC European Tour qualifiers with a point to prove – only to find out his place in the Austrian Open was already sealed.

The world no.44 rocked up to the venue in Leicester on Wednesday hoping to book his spot in the fifth tournament on the PDC Europe circuit later this month.

But in a surprise boost for the Latvian, his name was already down as being qualified for the event, which runs from April 25-27.

Taking to X to share the humorous incident, Razma said: “Sometimes you need to read the PDC news.

“I arrive at venue to play the qualifiers, but I don’t find myself in the tournament.

“And then you find out that you are already in Graz.”

Thankfully for Razma, he didn’t have to travel far having already been in Leicester for Tuesday’s Players Championship 10 event.

Razma was knocked out in the second round having lost 6-4 to Jim Williams, where he would have been hoping for an improved performance in the Tour Card Holder Qualifiers.

But the 36-year-old was quick to stress out that it was his error in turning up, after one fan sarcastically commented on how ‘professional’ the PDC is.

Razma responded: “This is not about the PDC.

“They can’t and don’t need to send a email after every single change.

“This time this is about me and my (great) mistake.”

Another fan asked the question as to whether the PDC needs to inform players whether they have already qualified for tournaments.

It led Razma to state: “I don’t think they need to do it. Everyone can open the PDC website and read this.

“And believe me, I don’t care. Finally rule changes did something good for me.”

It’s been a slow start to 2025 for ‘Razmatazz’, who is yet to progress past the fifth round of a major.

His best performance came in Players Championship 6, where he reached the semi-final – losing 7-1 against eventual champion Gian van Veen.

He currently sits in 44th spot in the Players Championship Order of Merit having banked £9,000 from the ten events so far.
