Many professional musicians play their whole careers dreaming of the day they’ll be able to play a gig at their favorite baseball team’s stadium.

ForJosh Kantor, that’s no April Fool’s Day joke, but a reality for 22 years. He’s the organist for the Boston Red Sox home games at Fenway Park.

Kantor took to Instagram on Tuesday, April 1 to announce, “I have this six-month* residency playing covers at a little outdoor venue on the other side of the river starting soon. Come say hi.”

He added, “*seven months if I'm lucky,” referring to the fact that his seasonal gig will be extended if the Red Sox make the postseason. He also posted a photo of the Red Sox home schedule for 2025 complete with their opponents and the start times.

Kantor is famous for taking live requests from fans during games via social media. If he doesn’t know the song, he’ll learn it on the spot and play it on his organ for the whole stadium to hear.

Fans responded to his post by getting in their early requests.

“Only if you play some William Joel… #pianomanororganguy,” wrote one.

“For the Yankees first visit: something from Damn the Torpedoes,” another one requested, referring to Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers classic album from 1979.

“There are songs that haven’t been written yet that you will have played by the end of this run ?,” another commented, referring to Kantor’s penchant for playing the latest releases if they’re requested by fans.

Aside from manning the organ at Fenway, Kantor also frequently gigs with touring musicians when they’re in Boston. In the past, he’s played with Mavis Staples, Eddie Vedder, Drive-By Truckers, Gang of Four, the Baseball Project, featuring former members of R.E.M., and others.
