A Palestinian journalist was killed after an Israeli airstrike targeted his apartment in Khan Younis, southern Gaza on Monday.
Mohammed Saleh Al-Bardawil was killed alongside his family, including his wife and three children – the Palestinian Journalists Protection Committee (PJPC) announced.
Al-Bardawil worked as a broadcaster for Al-Aqsa Radio for over 15 years, documenting Israel's war on the Gaza Strip while supporting displaced families as the offensive waged on.
Al-Aqsa Radio accused the Israeli forces of "desperately trying to silence the Palestinian narrative and obscure the truth".
Both PJPC and the Gaza Media Office have condemned Israel's killing and are calling on the international community and organisations to hold the perpetrators accountable.
"Journalists are civilians; targeting them is a war crime," PJPC said.
Al-Bardawil is the fourth journalist to have been killed since Israel renewed its offensive on the Gaza Strip on 18 March, including Hossam Shabat, who was killed after an Israeli strike targeted his car on 24 March and Muhammad Mansour, who was killed hours before in a separate attack.
The Gaza Health Ministry announced Al-Bardawil's death, bringing the total number of journalists killed since October 2023 to 209.
Last year was declared to be the deadliest year for journalists, with Israel being responsible for killing over two thirds of journalists in 2024, as its war on the Gaza Strip wages on.
Out of the 124 journalists killed across 18 countries, 85 were killed by Israel, with the journalists being primarily Palestinian or Lebanese press covering Israeli bombing and assaults, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).
The CPJ also found Israel to be one of the top three jailers of journalists, coming just under China with 43 journalists in detention.
Despite calls to protect media workers in Gaza, Israel has continued to target reporters and their family members.
The state has been accused of attempting to repress investigations into the killings, blaming the journalists and accusing them of being associated with militant groups.
