THE Dallas Cowboys need their offense to break out in a big way in 2025, and that starts with getting help for their quarterback.
Dallas handed Dak Prescott a massive four-year, $240 million contract last year, but he needs offensive weapons to live up to that number.
Prescott missed most of last season with a torn hamstring, but when he was on the field he didn’t have much offensive help.
The Cowboys‘ wide receiver room consists pretty much of just CeeDee Lamb, and the running backs are stagnant as well.
Dallas didn’t do much to fix that issue in free agency either, but executives previously promised that they aren’t done spending.
“We’re not done yet,” executive vice president Stephen Jones said.
“We still got some things that are out standing that we’re trying to get done.
“Missed a few guys along the way too in terms of the number just being a lot higher than we thought it would be on a couple guys.
“Overall we’re real pleased with what we were able to do with our roster and help the team.”
Jones also shared that the team is looking for a top No. 2 receiver to pair up with Lamb.
“I really like our room,” he said.
“At the same time, obviously losing Brandin Cooks in free agency, we’re still open to looking at a really explosive No. 2 that could upgrade us.”
At this point in free agency, the Cowboys are unlikely to find their No. 2 receiver on the open market.
Instead, they are going to have to look at the NFL Draft where they have a prime position to go after a wide receiver.
The top wide receiver in the draft class is Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan.
Unfortunately for the Cowboys, he will probably be off the board by the time they pick at No. 12.
They will have to pivot to one of the two next best options: Missouri’s Luther Burden III or Texas’ Matthew Golden.
NFL important dates 2025 season
March 12 - Free Agency begins
April 24-26 – NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin
September 4 – 2025 season opener (TBC vs Eagles)
November 27 – Thanksgiving Day triple header
January 4, 2026 – End of regular-season
February 8, 2026 – Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California
Burden didn’t have the most productive season of all time, going for just 676 yards and six touchdowns.
However, he plays well in the role of a slot receiver and will compliment Lamb’s skill set well.
Golden has true burner speed, running a 4.29-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
He went for 987 yards with nine touchdowns in 2024.
Either one of these receivers would fill the Cowboys’ No. 2 spot well.
