PITTSBURGH Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin shared a message to Aaron Rodgers that seems to reveal how he feels about the four-time NFL MVP.
The free agent star quarterback Rodgers met with the Steelers earlier this month to talk about the possibility of joining the team.
Tomlin appeared at the NFL’s annual league meeting and confirmed that Rodgers visited the Steelers’ facility in Pittsburgh, sharing it was a “really good day.”
The 53-year-old did share a four-word message to Rodgers, saying, “It is a process” when it comes to their public interest in the 41-year-old.
But Tomlin didn’t reveal much on where things stand with Rodgers.
“It was really good to spend some time together man and get to know each other more intimately, but it is free agency,” Tomlin said, per ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.
“It is a process. I have nothing of any more significance to add other than that.”
Tomlin also said there’s no deadline for the Steelers to make a deal with Rodgers or any other quarterback.
He said the team will continue to look at options at the quarterback position in both free agency and the 2025 NFL Draft which will take place next month.
The Steelers signed Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson to their signal-caller room, met with Alabama prospect Jalen Milroe, and are reportedly set to meet with Ole Miss’s Jaxson Dart.
Pittsburgh has watched 2024 starting quarterback Russell Wilson and Justin Fields sign with other teams.
Wilson signed with the New York Giants, which took the franchise off the board as a potential fit for Rodgers.
The Steelers seem to be the only team left for Rodgers, who was reportedly interested in joining the Minnesota Vikings – a team that hasn’t pursued the 20-year NFL veteran and has expressed their faith in JJ McCarthy.
The possibility of Rodgers hasn’t been ruled out by reporters, including ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Tomlin shared that the team hasn’t had a preference for a particular plan on the quarterback position.
“I don’t know if we are identifying anything as Plan A, Plan B or Plan C,” he said.
“We’re just simply looking at the field of available people, whether it’s free agency or the draft and making decisions and gathering information accordingly.”
Rodgers is coming off a disappointing campaign, which saw the New York Jets win just five games.
He posted 28 passing touchdowns against 11 interceptions but was 30th in completion percentage and 25th in total QBR.
The Jets officially cut Rodgers earlier this month.
The Steelers have seemingly gone all-in for the upcoming season and traded for star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf to pair with George Pickens.
They are coming off a 10-7 campaign in which they made a playoff appearance but lost their last five games, including a Wild Card game.
