Paul Mainieri and the South Carolina Gamecocks are dealing with some adversity right now. The team has now lost 7 consecutive games after falling to No. 1 Tennessee, 7-2.
That type of losing streak would frustrate anybody, and Coach Mainieri is looking for anything to get back on the winning track. He wants to change the mindset moving forward, and Mainieri said the team is going to treat the next game like a do-or-die situation.
“We’re going to treat Tuesday like it’s the seventh game of the World Series,” Mainieri said. “We’re not going to hold anything back.”

— Jack Veltri (@Jacktveltri) March 30, 2025The Gamecocks had a good run in non-conference, as the team was 16-4 during that time. However, they have struggled in SEC play, as they are only 1-8 with those 7 consecutive losses.
In those losses, South Carolina has lost to No. 3 Alabama, No. 21 North Carolina and No. 1 Tennessee. The pitching staff has really struggled in this stretch, giving up at least 7 runs in every game, and five of those games giving up at least 11 runs.
All 3 of those teams are teams that are capable of going to Omaha, but the Gamecocks just need to get a win to gain some confidence back. Their next game is against Presbyterian on Tuesday, before starting another SEC series with Mississippi State next weekend.
