Jelly Roll spoke candidly about a tough subject, and fans are commending him for it.
Earlier this week, the Nashville-born artist opened up about the impact addiction has had on his daughter a few days after she learned her mom had been arrested.
"I'm passionate about broken people in all forms," the 40-year-old "Son of a Sinner" crooner said during a recent appearance on The Pivot podcast. "But, you know, my child's mother has struggled with drug addiction since my daughter's been born pretty much. I've seen the effect that it had on her. I've got a 16-year-old almost 17-year-old upstairs and it's truly affected her life."
"It's really hurt her," he shared. "The addict is not the victim in that situation. The family is."

After clarifying that he believes the person struggling with substances is a "victim of the disease," the award-winning country artist continued, recalling his daughter's reaction to learning her mother had been arrested on charges related to possession of illicit substances.
"It broke my daughter's heart," he said. Jelly Roll explained that his daughter, Bailee, is well-informed about her mother's struggles, but nothing could have prepared her to see her mom's mugshot.
Overcome with emotion, Jelly took a few deep breaths before he told the hosts–Channing Crowder, Fred Taylor and Ryan Clark–that it was especially hard to watch "her go through it all over again."
"This hurts her," he concluded in the clip.

"He’s a damn good dad they way he cries for his daughter's pain is just wow!.. I’m so proud of you jelly! From feeding you at subway to this! You’re doing amazing things man! You and bunnie ? yall are angels," another gushed.
"This is the kind of man we should be making famous/rich etc. Using his platform to raise awareness and do so much for others ❤️," one more cheered.
Jelly Roll doesn't often discuss his daughter's life or that of his son, Noah, or their relatives, but he has been open about his own experience getting in trouble with the law and struggling with substance abuse, writing about it prolifically in some of his songs.
Since skyrocketing to fame, the doting dad and "Wild Ones" singer has returned to visit with incarcerated individuals, performing for them and sharing the joy of music–which he has credited with helping him turn his life around.
