RUSSELL Wilson delivered a message to the Pittsburgh Steelers after making a massive decision over his NFL career.
The 10-time NFL Pro Bowler signed with a team on Tuesday, and it wasn’t his 2024 squad.
On Tuesday afternoon, Wilson shared an Instagram video of icon college football coach Nick Saban delivering a lecture.
He captioned the Instagram story, “Champions believe in the process.”
It would seem that Wilson was sharing a message to the Steelers and the rest of the league, hinting at a new demand for NFL teams that want to sign the 2013-14 Super Bowl champion.
The New York Giants seemed to get the message as they reached an agreement with Wilson on a one-year deal worth up to $21 million, per ESPN.
The Giants, Cleveland Browns, and Steelers had been in contract discussions with Wilson.
But the 36-year-old Wilson chose New York, where he won Super Bowl 48 in MetLife Stadium as a player for the Seattle Seahawks.
He made a post on X and shared a message with his new team.
“Been here before… can’t wait to do it again. #MetLife @Giants,” Wilson wrote, along with a picture of his new home stadium.
Wilson signed before the free agent Rodgers, who has yet to make a decision but is the heavy favorite to sign with the Steelers.
The four-time NFL MVP Rodgers reportedly met with Wilson’s former Pittsburgh team and left without a contract last week.
The Giants’ addition of Wilson comes days after the team signed veteran Jameis Winston to a two-year, $8 million contract.
Big Blue’s quarterback room consists of Wilson, Winston, and Tommy DeVito.
The eventual signing of Wilson doesn’t mean the Giants won’t take a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Owner John Mara told reporters after the end of the 2024 regular season that the team’s priority is to find a quarterback for the future.
Neither Wilson, Winston, or DeVito is on a long-term contract.
Wilson is coming off a season with the Steelers in which he went 6-1 in his first seven starts.
However, he and the team’s offense faltered down the stretch and they ended on a five-game losing streak.
Wilson finished the season with 16 touchdowns against five interceptions.
Before his Pittsburgh tenure, Wilson played two seasons for the Denver Broncos, where he was inconsistent and led the team to a combined 11-19 record.
He’s best known for his days in Seattle, where he earned nine Pro Bowl selections, won a Super Bowl, and posted 350 touchdown passes to 111 interceptions in 13 seasons.
Wilson will join a Giants team that went a dreadful 3-14 last season.
