THE Philadelphia Eagles have been urged to make a move for free agent Justin Simmons.
Simmons left the Atlanta Falcons earlier this year and is regarded as one of the NFL’s leading safeties.
The Eagles romped to an emphatic 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX last month.
But they are now looking to rebuild their roster after a string of stars left the franchise.
Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson has left the Eagles to join the Houston Texans.
Gardner-Johnson started 16 games for the Eagles in 2024 with 59 tackles.
He also added 12 pass deflections and 6 interceptions with 116 return yards, including 1 returned for a touchdown.
Simmons would fit the bill as a potential elite replacement
He indicated last month the Eagles were “high on his list” of teams he’d prefer to play for in 2025, per Heavy.
And NFL insider Kristopher Knox believes the 4-time NFL All-Pro could sign on a one-year deal.
Writing in Bleacher Report, Knox claimed the Eagles are the “ideal fit” for Simmons.
He added: “Simmons proved last year that he can still play at a high level.
“He started 16 games for the Falcons and was one of their few defensive bright spots.
“He allowed an opposing passer rating of only 81.9 in coverage and logged 62 tackles, seven passes defended and two interceptions.
“Simmons can likely expect another short-term contract, but he can add a playmaking presence to the back end of a defense.”
“Get Justin Simmons,” wrote one impatient fan on X after the 31-year-old was linked to the reining Super Bowl champions.
“Howie [Roseman] is just focusing on the draft first then Simmons will come in for that vet one year deal,” predicted a second.
“Today would be a great day for Howie and the Eagles to sign Justin Simmons”, demanded a third.
Simmons – who moved to Atlanta from the Denver Broncos last year – is projected to sign a one-year deal worth $5.8million, per Spotrac.
The former third round pick played in 16 contests last season and finished with 62 tackles, seven passes defensed, two interceptions and two tackles for loss.
A versatile player on defense, he can play deep in the secondary, line up in the box or cover the slot receiver.
