WARREN — Trumbull County commissioners believe they are close to addressing concerns about the Trumbull County 911 Center, Emergency Management Agency and coroner’s offices.
Commissioners have been looking for new homes for the 911 Center and the coroner’s office since 2024.
EMA Director John Hickey previously suggested he could move from his current office at 640 North River Road to the former Bazetta Fire Department, which the county owns, located just outside of the Trumbull County Fairgrounds. The move would provide him more space to park vehicles and store equipment, and would open up the EMA building for the coroner’s office.
Malloy and Commissioner Tony Bernard toured the fire station Friday.
“I do believe we can move the EMA to the fire department,” Malloy said. “We have the best option of retooling the EMA for the coroner. We have the solution there. It is just finding the money,” Malloy said during Tuesday’s weekly workshop meeting.
Hickey is looking for grant money.
“We are going to reach out to building trades and volunteer firemen to help rehabilitate that building and utilize free labor to get it into the condition it needs to be,” Malloy said. “That’s the route we need to go. I’m fully supportive.”
Commissioner Tony Bernard said Hickey estimated the move would cost about $400,000.
“That’s our best option,” Bernard said. “Because we need a home for the coroner.”
Commissioner Rick Hernandez said the new county health building would be the best option for the new 911 building.
“We are moving in a positive direction,” Malloy said.
Bernard said the county is looking for a grant to fund the proposed dog pound move to property next to the Animal Welfare League in Vienna.
