If you love a Big Mac but want something easy, cheesy and perfect for feeding a crowd (or if you want Big Mac flavor without the buns), this Big Mac Casserole is your answer. It takes all the best parts of a classic Big Mac and turns it into a bubbling, golden-brown, oven-baked masterpiece. Plus, it’s a fun twist on a cheeseburger and fries, replacing the bun with crispy tater tots for an extra satisfying crunch.
This dish, shared by food creator and cookbook author Matthew Bounds (@yourbarefootneighbor), is an easy way to put a fast-food-inspired meal on the table without hitting the drive-thru.

♬ original sound - Your Barefoot Neighbor - Your Barefoot NeighborFor this recipe, which Bounds says is based on a recipe shared by @thecookinmama, you'll need frozen tater tots, ground beef, diced onion, dill pickle relish, mayo, ketchup, Thousand Island dressing, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, shredded cheese and sliced cheese.
Start by spreading the frozen tater tots in a single layer in a baking dish and popping them into a 375° oven. Let them get golden and crispy while you prep the rest of the casserole. This step is key—no one wants soggy tots!
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with the diced onion until the beef is fully browned and the onion is soft. Drain any excess grease.
In a large bowl, combine the cooked beef and onion with dill pickle relish, mayo, ketchup, Thousand Island dressing, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and shredded cheese. Stir everything together until it’s well combined and coated with that signature Big Mac sauce.
Pour the beef mixture over the top of the tots, making sure it’s evenly distributed, then layer on slices of cheese for that gooey, melty bite. Top it all off with another layer of tater tots, then pop the casserole back into the oven. Bake until the top layer of tots is golden and crispy, and the cheese is bubbly.
For the full Big Mac experience, serve with a side of shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, chopped onion and pickles. You can even drizzle more sauce on top for that true fast-food feel.

Ways to Customize Your Big Mac Casserole
This recipe is already packed with flavor, but there are plenty of ways to tweak it and make it your own. Add some crispy bacon bits into the beef to give it bacon cheeseburger vibes.
A few dashes of hot sauce, some diced jalapeños or pepper jack cheese give it a kick, and if you want a lighter version, use diced roasted potatoes instead of tater tots.
This dish is a dream for busy nights because it’s easy to make with minimal prep and it's all baked in one dish. Plus, it's great for a lot of people—it’s a cheeseburger in casserole form. What’s not to love?
It reheats beautifully for lunch the next day and it's easy to customize to make it exactly the way you want it—no risk of your order being messed up!
Big Mac Casserole is pure comfort food, giving you all the nostalgia of a drive-thru burger with the crispy, cheesy goodness of a casserole and I can't wait to give it a try!
