2 hospitalized after Aurora duplex catches fire

Two people, including an Aurora police officer, were taken to the hospital Monday night after a duplex caught fire in the city’s Meadow Hills neighborhood.

Aurora Fire Rescue crews responded to a duplex fire in the 3700 block of South Fairplay Way at around 6 p.m., the agency said on social media. Fire crews called for additional resources before the flames were contained at approximately 6:30 p.m.

    An Aurora police officer who was first on scene and one other person were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation but are expected to recover, according to the fire department and Aurora Police Department. One cat was killed in the fire.

    Both homes in the duplex were heavily damaged and the cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.
