A STUNNING new $500 million wellness facility will allow travelers to sip cocktails while relaxing inside a heated swimming pool.
The 500,000-square-foot facility was unveiled on Thursday, accompanied by a promotional video advertising everything the new luxurious rest and relaxation center will offer.
Guests are invited to indulge in the steamy saunas while their kids slide down one of the numerous waterslides in the new Washington D.C. retreat.
Mayor Muriel Bowser approved Therme Group’s proposal to open the new health center in Poplar Point, DC News Now reported.
“You can experience art, culture, well-being and have incredible food all in one place,” said Robert Hammond, President of Therme US.
“It’s really like a state-of-the-art oasis, an urban oasis for people of all ages and all walks of life.”
Therme Group’s first US facility will take about three years to construct and is expected to bring in about 5,000 construction jobs and 700 permanent jobs.
Therme’s latest project will have a 70-acre riverfront park and trail system with 25 acres for mixed-use development.
The development will include several pools and waterslides for people of all ages, along with cocktail bars and steam rooms.
“We envision a Poplar Point that creates jobs for residents and opportunities for businesses, and helps us draw visitors from around our region, our nation and the world,” said Bowser.
“This is one of our last great waterfront development opportunities not just in D.C. but on the entire east coast.”
The Vienna-based company began the process of opening its new retreat in 2023, when it first proposed a US resort to city leaders.
“Our mission as a company is to make well-being accessible,” Alschuler told The Washington Post.
“The fact that Poplar Point remains the only large-scale site undeveloped, east of the river, for me requires focus and attention.”
Alschuler said the facility plans to offer senior centers and youth groups free admission to the resort and start a fund for other wellness-based small businesses.
The new facility will be opened year-round, 16 hours a day, and can hold about 5,000 people at a time.
The thermal spring resort operator currently has four resorts opened in Europe, with its global headquarters being based in Vienna, Austria.
Therme Group’s new resort will be modeled after its Munich and Bucharest facilities.
