The Beatles are, without doubt, one of the most recognisable bands in the world – even 45 years since they went their separate ways.
Defining an undefinable legacy in music, the mass hysteria that John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison created has rarely been replicated in the 60 years since they first appeared on radios.
With artists across all genres classing them as influences – from Ed Sheeran to Oasis, The Beach Boys to The Rolling Stones, and Bee Gees to Nirvana – their songs have held the test of time, remaining classics that generations of musicians and listeners alike have enjoyed.
Whether you’re a pop, rock or psychedelic fan, you’re guaranteed to have been affected by their music, whether you realise it or not.
Although they disbanded in 1970 after a 10-year reign on the music charts, they maintain the record for most No.1 songs in Official Charts history.
In November 2023, fans went wild with the release of a new, and their final, Beatles song, entitled Now and Then which had been hidden in their vaults for decades, there’s a reason the Fab Four from Liverpool remain generational icons.
If you want to know where to start with The Beatles, then we’re here to help – here are their era-defining albums in order, as well as their biggest songs.

Let It Be was released in May 1970 – a month after the group officially announced they would be disbanding. A documentary on the release of their final album, also titled Let It Be, was released at the same time.
Recording the album was fraught, with George Harrison temporarily leaving the band during rehearsals and recording, and John Lennon later leaving the band before its completion as well.
To promote the album, they had one, solitary performance on the rooftop of their recording studio, Apple Studios, in January 1970, with John bidding farewell to their fans by declaring: “I’d like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we’ve passed the audition.”
Their final single, Now & Then, was released in 2023 – and also went to Number One – although by this point half of the band had died. John Lennon was killed outside his New York home in December 1980, and George Harrison died from lung cancer at the age of 58 in November 2001.
Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr both continue to perform around the world.
